How to view devanagari font sites in android

Though android has capability to view devnagari fonts, some companies like htc etc. still haven’t given this “luxury” to us yet. While some like SonyEricsson phones and 2.2 version of android for samsung do show hindi, marathi fonts quite nicely.

If your phone does not display devnagari fonts by default, inbuilt browser will also not be able to show the devnagari fonts. But we can still view these sites by using Opera Mini Browser.

1. Install Opera mini web browser. Here is android market link.

2. Enter “opera:config” in address bar.

3. Go to end of page displayed. There would be an option “Use bitmap fonts for complex scripts”, change its value to “Yes”

That’s it. You should be able to view the hindi, marathi, tamil, telugu etc languages in android now.

Enjoy.

Note: In step 2 make sure you delete the “www.” before entering opera:config. Also, you must be connected to net for changing these parameters.

UPDATE: Google have finally made required changes in Jelly Bean version of android. So, from now on, all the androids with version Jelly Bean or later will have in built support to view/write hindi/marathi. Good job Google.

Make sure you buy a mobile with Jelly Bean or later version of android on it..

Thank you.
